Mental Health Promotion
Research shows that people who seek help early for a mental health problem have a much better chance of a quick and complete recovery. On the other hand, delayed treatment can have serious long-term consequences for the person who is unwell and their family.Pathways Mental Health Promotion has been designed to assist in the prevention of health problems and in identification and intervention for those people who may be experiencing signs of illness. It also aims to breakdown the stigma surrounding mental illness, a factor in people not seeking early help for problems. We welcome requests for free community education or staff training to specifically meet the needs of your organisation.
DEPRESSION AWARENESS RESEARCH PROJECT (DARP)
Pathways worked with staff of the Mental Health Research Institute on a project funded by beyondblue the national depression initiative.
The DARP acknowledged the growing concern, that without community strategies for prevention and early intervention for mental health problems, by the year 2020, depression will be the second leading cause of our global burden of disease. The project aimed to have local communities develop their own awareness of mood disorders and in particular depression. In addition, a research component of the project assessed the degree of penetration of the content of information presented to communities.
